MORE MAPS AND DIRECTIONS

Via Air:

Madison is served by the Dane County Regional Airport. Commercial carriers are:

  • American Eagle (American) 800-433-7300
  • Comair (Delta) 800-354-9822
  • Midwest Express/Skyway 800-452-2022
  • Northwest Airlines 800-225-2525
  • Trans World Express (TWA) 800-221-2000
  • United Express (United) 800-241-6522
United Express uses small jets exclusively (as opposed to props) for commuter flights. Most of the time flying directly to Madison costs no more than flying to Chicago. A taxi from the airport to the downtown/campus area will cost around $14. If you are coming from outside the U.S. and have to buy a separate ticket to Madison, you might consider taking the bus from O'Hare airport in Chicago.

Via Bus:

Busses between Madison and Chicago O'Hare/downtown Amtrak station are operated by the Van Galder Bus Co. They depart approximately every 30 to 90 minutes from International Terminal #5 (Lower Level, Exit 5E), and 30 minutes later from the Bus/Shuttle Center outside Terminals 1-3. The bus trip to Madison takes about 3.5 hours and costs $22 one way. It will drop you off at the Memorial Union, 800 Langdon St., 2 blocks from the Lowell Center and Madison Inn, and 1 block from the Pyle Center. For information and the bus schedule, visit the Van Galder Bus Co. web site or call 800-747-0994, toll-free in the U.S. If you are travelling from Minneapolis, check the Greyhound Bus Co. web site or call Greyhound Bus (800-231-2222).

Via Auto from Fermilab:

From the Pine St. exit (west side of the Lab) take Kirk Rd. north (right). Go to Fabyan Rd. and turn left on to Fabyan Rd. Take Fabyan to Randall Rd. and turn right onto Randall (north). Take Randall to I-90.

  • Take I-90 West to Madison. It is about 100 mi. to the Madison exit, exit 142. (It's a LEFT exit).
  • Take Exit 142 left onto Hwy. 12-18 west. This is a local highway going into Madison.
  • Take the Park St. exit, 261B.
  • At the bottom of the ramp, take a right (north) onto Park St. Go about 2.5 miles through several (green) lights, and under the railroad bridge to W. Johnson St.
  • Turn right onto W. Johnson St.
  • Move into left lane and turn left onto Lake St.
  • Two public parking ramps that charge by the hour are available on Lake St. and are within a 5-minute walk to the Pyle Center. On-street parking is very difficult to find on campus, and university parking lots requiring permits are closely patrolled. So public ramps are the way to go. Otherwise, parking will of course be available at your hotel.
